JANE AUSTEN’S HOUSE

Pay a visit to the house Jane Austen wrote and published all six of her books in. Now a museum, the house gives a look into Regency era life. Visitors can relive Jane Austen’s daily routine and explore her objects and personal items that remain in the house.

WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL

25 minute drive 

Explore a piece of Winchester history.  

Winchester Cathedral is the longest medieval cathedral in the world, and is also one of the oldest in Britain – it was built in 1079. Take a look at the intricate stained glass windows, the famous Winchester Bible, and both medieval and modern art.

WESTGATE MUSEUM 

20 minute drive 

Discover the 16th and 17th century history of Winchester.   

Beginning its life as a 12th century city gateway, the Westgate Museum now houses exhibits about the marriage of Queen Mary and Philip II of Spain in 1554. You can also learn all about the effect the English Civil War had on Winchester.

WOLVESEY CASTLE 

20 minute drive 

Explore the ruins of an ancient castle.   

Wolvesey Castle was one of the most important palaces in Norman Britain. Back in medieval times, Winchester was second only to London in terms of religious importance.
